A new standard will help those in the plastic film industry a better way to measure average thickness and thickness variability of plastic film. The new standard (D8136) was developed by ASTM International's committee on plastics (D20).

The new standard will be of use to polymer producers, film producers, and film buyers, and will yield more accurate and precise results than existing methods.
