1-Analytical Microbiology
Capella Innovation Inc. will provide microbiological analysis for the food and beverage industry. We will be able to perform a range of qualitative and quantitative analyses of bacteria, yeast and molds using the Compendium of analytical methods from Health Canada. These analyses serve to determine compliance with national standards and guidelines and assess the safety and the quality of the food. It also serves to detect dangerous levels of foodborne pathogens and help to prevent costly recalls for the food industry. For the beer industry, microbiology testing is used in quality control to detect unwanted bacterial contamination.
2-Environmental & Swab Testing
Capella Innovation Inc. can help with food factory hygiene by testing swabs which are used to monitor the effectiveness of the food factory cleaning program. In food manufacturing, swab testing and environmental monitoring is often used to validate critical control points highlighted through HACCP.

3-Shelf life testing
The Shelf Life of a perishable product is the length of time that it may be stored without becoming unfit for consumption. When a product shows signs of deterioration, then the product is no longer fit for sale and that point is determined to be its shelf life. Best before dates are affected by a variety of factors and need to be rigorously assessed under laboratory conditions. Capella Innovation Inc. will be able to provide its clients with shelf life testing (microbiology, color, appearance etc.) for a wide variety of products.
4-Extraneous Material in Foods
Many types of extraneous material may be present in foods. Extraneous material that is associated with food may include bone, glass or metal fragments, insects, hair or feathers from animal products amongst others. Capella Innovation Inc. will analyze food or beverages, and provide the client with the complete mandatory information required by Health Canada.
5-Nutrition facts labels
Nutrition Facts Table is mandatory for most pre-packaged food sold in Canada, and new regulations require changes to existing tables. Capella Innovation Inc. can analyze product, and provide clients with the complete mandatory information on nutrient content and serving size required by the government to appear on labels.
6-Food Packaging
Packaging preserves food throughout the supply chain of distribution, storage, sale, and use and carries information about nutrition and storage on its labels. Without it, goods can become exposed and contaminated. It can also refer to the process of design, evaluation, and production of packages.
The safety of all materials used for packaging foods is controlled under Section B.23.001 of Canada’s Food and Drug Regulations. The packaging industry constantly faces changes in innovation, design, sustainability, convenience and regulations, Capella Innovation Inc. will assist its clients to choose the right food packaging materials to accommodate their products.

7-UPC Bar code, QR codes
UPC barcodes are Universal Product Codes that are used in Canada and the US to convey prices to electronic registers, but are also used to help manage inventory and traceability. Capella Innovation Inc. will provide companies with unique bar codes for all of their food or beverage products.
8-Analytical Chemical/Physical
Capella Innovation Inc. uses official methods of Analysis from the AOAC (Association of Analytical Chemists) to determine a wide range of physical and chemical analyses for all types of food. These analyses cover a broad spectrum of safety interests including food and beverages, dietary supplements, infant formulas, pharmaceuticals and more. We can perform analyses of our client’s product to fulfill their specific needs.
For beer, spirits and wine products; the analyses are performed following methods developed by the American Society of Brewing Chemists (ASBC), by the Association of Analytical Chemists (AOAC), or by the International Organisation of Vine and Wine (OIV). Those analyses can be performed on fermenting or bottled products.
9-Import/Export testing
Health and Safety regulations exist in Canada for all imported or exported food products, in order to protect the consumers. Capella Innovation Inc. can evaluate if your product destined for exportation or importation meets those regulations.
