Investigating Automotive Sunroof Glass Failure in Honda Pilot

Project Description

A forensic materials testing laboratory is needed to investigate the cause of failure of a shattered sunroof glass panel from a 2026 Honda Pilot. The objective is to determine whether the failure may have originated from a manufacturing defect, including the potential presence of nickel sulfide inclusions or other glass integrity issues commonly associated with tempered automotive glass failures.

The sunroof glass panel fractured while the vehicle was in operation. The apparent failure initiation point remains identifiable, and the glass panel is fully cracked but largely intact in the region of interest, allowing for detailed fracture and defect analysis.

Requested capabilities may include:

  • Fractography and failure origin analysis
  • Microscopic examination of tempered glass defects
  • Nickel sulfide inclusion investigation
  • Materials characterization and defect identification
  • Expert reporting suitable for insurance, warranty, or legal review

Please include laboratory capabilities, estimated turnaround times, sample handling requirements, and pricing information in your response.
