Forensic Analysis of Suspected Synthetic Psilocybin in Chocolate-Related Fatalities

Project Description

The San Luis Obispo (SLO) County Crime Laboratory is seeking qualified analytical laboratories to perform forensic testing on chocolate products associated with two suspected poisoning fatalities. The case involves potential contamination with toxic mushroom compounds, including those from death cap mushrooms, and/or synthetic psilocybin or related psychoactive compounds incorporated into chocolate matrices.

The requesting laboratory does not currently have validated GC-MS methods capable of accurately detecting and quantifying these compounds in complex food matrices. Services requested include method development and validation, compound identification, confirmatory analysis, and quantitative determination as appropriate for forensic investigation.
