First Responder Cleaning Cloth Efficacy Studies
Project Description
Contract Laboratory needed for multiple efficacy studies of cleaning cloths used by first responders. Our first study was on fire first (small molecule organic contaminants) and some preliminary bacterial testing was performed. Now, we are interested now in moving into viral testing, specifically the viruses a first responder might be most concerned with - things like Hep A, Hep B, and HIV.
The way the process has worked with past labs is that they contaminate a small quantity (2 x 2 square) of cotton T-shirt fabric with a known amount of material, seal the cloth fabric in a vial, and send it to our facility. We process it using our decontamination equipment, and then send the cleaned swatch back for analysis to see how much destruction of the biological material took place. We've also worked in close collaboration with lab inwhere we moved the decontamination unit (about the size of a small fridge) on site and had engineers on hand to help with its operation. This cut back on some of the regulations of sending the samples back and forth.
Best wishes!
