An FDA GMP-compliant analytical chemistry laboratory is required to conduct regulatory testing of Yellow #5 (Tartrazine) and its associated compounds in fried potato chips. Testing must ensure compliance with FDA specifications, including limits on volatile matter at 135 °C, water-insoluble matter, specific azo and pyrazole compound impurities, heavy metals (Pb, As, Hg), and banned aromatic amines such as benzidine and 4-aminobiphenyl. Total dye content must also be confirmed to be not less than 87%. Experience in food dye compliance testing and FDA regulatory standards is essential.
