EPDM Rubber Gasket Material Testing for Identification of Molecular Structure
Project Description
MULTIPLE PRODUCTS
Contract Laboratory needed for identification of the molecular structure of EPDM rubber gasket material that was used on the railcar hatch plates (before, presently and anticipated) use to identify the molecular structure in a material to identify the material itself.
Background:
• Before replacement of new railcar hatch plates – the existing rubber gasket (EPDM) in-service for ~3 years was still intact and good overall visual condition. Adhesive had been applied to secure the rubber gasket in place.
• Present rubber gaskets are considered EPDM, but the service time is short lived at ~4 months (gasket material is tearing). Adhesive had not been applied and maybe reason for rubber deterioration due to in/out movement of hatch plates during loading.
• New gasket material (EPDM) has been ordered. Would like to check this material also to ensure if comparable.
The gasket material will be loose, whole and available to be shipped/transported for analysis. Can you advise if destructive testing is applied during this analysis – hence the new gasket material ordered may not be a candidate.
