Custom Hydrothermal Synthesis and Characterization of Fluorescent Carbon Nanodots (CDots)

Project Description

Need a qualified laboratory partner to perform custom microwave-assisted hydrothermal synthesis of fluorescent carbon nanostructures (carbon nanodots, CDots) using a proprietary, non-hazardous, dry, organic, biological fiber precursor (mammalian keratin) supplied by the client. (Does not require biosafety confinement.)

Technical Requirements:

  • Target Particle Size: hydrodynamic diameter of 5–10 nm
  • Fluorescence: High-intensity blue emission with 365 nm excitation (target emission range ~430–460 nm).
  • Solubility: Low poly-dispersity.

Deliverables & Format:
Purified Aqueous Solution: 25–50mL of final product at approximately 1 mg/mL concentration.

All buffers or additives must be biocompatible and non-cytotoxic for use in aqueous-based imaging and tracer environments.

Analytical Documentation Required:

  • Fluorescence Spectroscopy: Detailed Excitation and Emission (Ex/Em) spectral data maps
  • DLS Analysis: Size distribution and polydispersity data
  • Basic SOP: Summary of successful synthesis parameters (Temp/Time/Pressure)

The selected laboratory must demonstrate expertise in nanomaterials synthesis, purification, physicochemical characterization, and stability assessment.

This request represents an initial feasibility and materials validation phase. Upon successful completion, further work may include batch reproducibility studies, application-specific optimization, and scaled manufacturing.
